Prof. Hong - Someth is one of the first generation of Doctors of Dental Suregery, training in Phnom Penh after the Khmer Rouge. He graduated in 1994 and was appointed to work at the dental school since then. In 1996, he got the scholarship from NZODA to further his studies in Oral Surgery at Otago University, New Zealand. After completing his studies in 1999, he was appointed as the Deputy Head of Oral Surgery Department, senior lecturer, and clinical tutor at the dental school in Phnom Penh.

Prof. Hong – Someth was the founder of the Cambodian Students’ Dental Association in 1994 and Cambodian Dental Association in 1995 and was elected as the President of the Cambodian Dental Association in 2000 and was re-elected in 2001 served as the president till 2003. He has been traveling to most countries in Asia-Pacific regions to represent Cambodian dentists as well as to improve his knowledge and skills in Oral Surgery. He has been presenting many papers related to Dentistry in Cambodia and Oral Surgery in local and international meetings, seminars, and congresses.

Currently, Prof. Hong-Someth is holding the positions as the Deputy Head of Research and Preventive Office, Professor and Clinical Supervisor in Oral Surgery at the Faculty of Odonoto-Stomatology in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He is also the Treasurer of the Dental Council of Cambodia, President of the Cambodian Society for Conscious Sedation, and Vice President of Dental Implant Society of Cambodia. He was promoted as a full professor by His Royal Highness, Norodom Sihamony on 28th May 2011 and officially announced by the Minister of Health on 15th September 2011. In early 2013, Prof. Hong was appointed as an Adjunct Professor by James Cook University, Australia. He is also a part-time private practitioner of his own Standard Dental Surgery in Phnom Penh.

In research field, Prof. Hong has written several articles related to oral surgery for Cambodian Dental Association’s Journal. He has been supervising theses for undergraduate students and assisting the students doing research in clinical dentistry since 2006.
